Women's tennis looks to recover from first loss
by   |  March 5, 2010  |

The 35th-ranked Sooners suffered their first loss of the season last weekend. OU was 7-0, their best start since 2003, before falling to the 20th-ranked Razorbacks in Fayetteville, Ark.

The Sooners dropped one spot, to 36th, in Monday’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.

OU lost the doubles point for the first time this season and things didn’t get much better from there. Junior Tara Eckel picked up a match point for the Sooners, preventing the dreaded shutout and continuing her undefeated season.

“Arkansas is just a great team,” Eckel said. “It was tough because we wanted to keep our streak going but we took a good loss and we will start again on Friday.”

The Sooners host Wichita State Friday at 4:00 p.m. at the Gregg Wadley Tennis Pavilion. Admission is free to all matches. Live scoring for all home matches can be followed at http://www.soonersports.com/sports/w-tennis/livescoring.html.
