The OU women’s golf team shot a 319 (+31) en route to a ninth place finish in the 17-team UCF Challenge in Sorrento, Fla. The Sooners completed the tournament with a 54-hole score of 918 (+54).
Texas A&M won the tournament with a three-round score of 893 (+29), two strokes ahead of second place finisher Georgia State. Other teams from the Big 12 competing in the tournament included Baylor and Nebraska, finishing 5th and 17th respectively.
Senior Andrea Sellmeyer led the way for the Sooners, posting a 13th-place finish. Sellermeyer shot a 7-over 79 on the final 18 to finish with a total of 224 (+8) for the tournament. Tuesday’s performance tied Sellmeyer’s best career finish (she placed 13th at the 2007 Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational).
Junior Ellen Mueller added her 13th top-20 performance of her career, ending the tournament tied for 17th. Mueller shot a 77 (+5) in the final round to finish with a total of 226 (+10). Senior Chelsey Collins turned in a final round card of 81 (+9) and a three-round total of 234 (+18) to finish tied for 44th place overall. Competing in her fifth straight tournament, Freshman Taylor Schmidt shot a final round 84 (+12) and finished with a 54-hole total of 236 (+20), tied for 51st place.
Sophomore Brooke Collins finished things out for the Sooners, shooting an 82 (+10) and finishing tied for 69th with a total of 242 (+26).
The Sooners return to the links on March 8 and 9 for the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational in San Jose, Calif.
