OU (50-16) will face the Clemson Tigers (44-23) during second-round action of the 2010 Men’s College World Series at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb.
The Tigers advanced to face the Sooners after holding on for a 6-3 win over the nation’s top seed, Arizona State (52-9) on Monday.
The Clemson-ASU game had originally been scheduled for Sunday evening following the OU-South Carolina game, but lightning strikes over Rosenblatt Stadium postponed action until Monday.
During the opening round of the College World Series on Sunday night, the Sooners never lost their patience en route to a 4-3 victory over the Gamecocks.
Six hours of rain delays, loaded bases in consecutive innings by the Gamecocks and a late score in the ninth inning following a walk by OU closer Ryan Duke tested the Sooners.
However, the Sooners didn’t crumble under pressure. Led by solo home runs from sophomores Caleb Bushyhead and Garrett Buechele, OU managed to squeeze out another one-run victory.
Sunday's win also marked Duke’s 28th-career save, tying an OU school record on the mound.
Clemson is making its 12th trip to Omaha after defeating No. 16 Alabama in the Clemson Super Regional.
Going into Monday’s matchup against ASU, Clemson was hitting .310 as a team, with a .407 on-base percentage. The Tigers also had 93 home runs for the 2010 season going into Omaha.
The Clemson pitching staff had a combined 4.72 ERA and a .280 opponent’s batting average.
Clemson unloaded on the Sun Devils, posting a 6-2 lead through six innings played. Clemson ended the day with 14 hits.
ASU responded in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single by Drew Maggi to cut the lead to 6-3. The rally was short lived, however, and the Sun Devils will face South Carolina (48-16) in an elimination game at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
