The Sooner Schooner may be heading West after reports that a formal invitation may be extended to OU to join the Pac-10 Conference today.

After the University of Nebraska confirmed its move to the Big Ten Wednesday, speculation about where the rest of the Big 12 would land began.

Following the Cornhuskers' decision to depart, the University of Colorado announced its move to the Pac-10 this morning. Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott said in a press conference the Buffaloes would officially join the conference in 2012.

ESPN.com, citing unnamed sources, said OU, OSU, Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M and Colorado will join the Pac-10 to create a 16-team conference.

Because of its size, the conference would be split into two divisions: East and West. The Sooners may join Arizona and Arizona St., along with the other Oklahoma and Texas schools, in a Pac-8 East division, ESPN.com said.

How the move will affect the Sooners is still unknown. Associate Athletic Director Kenny Mossman said the athletic department isn't ready to speak with the media because details haven't solidified.

"When the time is right, we will avail Joe Castiglione to media for those kinds of interviews," he said. " For now, with the situation still fluid and with decision-makers still engaged in meetings and research, the wisest move for us is to wait until we can comment on solid fact."

Scott said the conference is looking at scenarios of creating divisions if it adds six teams. He also said the Pac-10 may evaluate the name of the conference to fit more appropriately with its membership.
