Update: Heupel denies OU to SEC report
by by   |  June 10, 2010  |

OU quarterbacks coach Josh Heupel has denied reports that he said the Sooners have decided to move to the Southeastern Conference, said Rivals.com's Carey Murdock.

According to a report from KTBS Shreveport, Heupel said this Thursday night to those attending the Independence Bowl Hall of Honor Banquet.

“I got a text during dinner from our running backs coach that we're going to the SEC," Heupel allegedly said.

However, Murdock said he spoke with Heupel after the report broke, and Heupel told him it was "absolutely false."

Rumors have run rampant throughout the week in regards to the Sooners and their plans for conference realignment.

Associate Athletic Director Kenny Mossman stated in an e-mail Friday morning that administrators would not comment on any speculation, but would announce their decision through its usual press outlets.

"We're not going to respond to everything floating around out there," Mossman said. "When we have an announcement, it will come through our normal channels and not through an assistant football coach speaking at a banquet."

More on this as information becomes available.

This report gives me some hope that OU is heading the right direction and standing on their own two feet! OU to the SEC! It is the right fit for the Sooners. Heupel might of made a "slip" but it gave me hope when I just about had given up on sanity. I'm afraid we would never get a fair shake out west. Californians call us the "flyovers." Just people and land to fly over to the other coast. Let's go where we fit in with others, like the SEC.

You may not know it, but MANY people from Oklahoma moved out and settled in places like eastern Washington and Oregon from the 1930's to 60's.

Why do you think the oregon duck fans act the way they do? ;>)

You have more in common with the west than the southeast.
