OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater says a corruption probe into the activities of three state lawmakers could expand to include "potentially many others."
Prater said Monday he recently learned of allegations that Democratic state Sen. Debbe Leftwich agreed not to seek re-election in exchange for a state job at the state Medical Examiner's office. Leftwich and her attorney have denied she did anything improper.
The $80,000-per-year job was created in a bill approved in the final days of the legislative session to reorganize the Medical Examiner's office.
Prater has been given permission to present evidence to a multicounty grand jury, which can issue indictments or recommend the ouster of elected officials.
Prater confirmed the probe also involves Republican state Reps. Randy Terrill and Mike Christian.
