ENID — Aly Seng is leaving the OU women's golf team to transfer to Arkansas State University.
Seng, the state Class 6A individual champion with Enid High School in 2009, averaged 81.31 strokes in 13 rounds with the Sooners as a freshman.
She will be immediately eligible at Arkansas State since she received a waiver from OU.
Seng signed with the Sooners before veteran coach Carol Ludvigson retired and new coach Veronique Drouin took over last summer.
At Arkansas State, she will be playing for newly hired Marie-Josee Desbiens, a former assistant at OU under Ludvigson.
Desbiens directed Oklahoma City University to back-to-back NAIA championships in 2008-09.
''I'm excited to go there," Seng said. "MJ was an assistant coach of the coach who recruited me at OU so it should be a good fit."
Seng said she leaves OU with no bitter feelings.
''It just didn't go my way there," she said. "I just feel this is the way it's supposed to be. The coach there will make me a better person and golfer. I'm just moving on."
Arkansas State was seventh in the Sun Belt Conference tournament.
The Red Wolves went to tournaments at Calhoun County, Ala.; Lincoln, Neb.; Springfield, Mo.; Bradenton, Fla.; Gulf Shores, Ala.; Victoria, Texas; Stockbridge, Ga.; Hot Springs Village, Ark.; and Richmond, Ky.
''The one thing I really like about it is that they have a great tournament schedule," Seng said. "That's a good thing.
''It doesn't matter what conference you're in in golf as long as you're playing in warm weather and playing in good tournaments. That's the biggest thing."
