Norman-native Joseph McCasland has been nominated for an Emmy award for his editorial work on the Animal Planet television series "Whale Wars."
''Whale Wars," one of the network's top-rated shows, follows the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society's efforts to find and stop the illegal hunting of whales.
McCasland is nominated in the category of Outstanding Picture Editing for Nonfiction Programming for his work on the episode "Whale Wars -- The Stuff of Nightmares," in which a whale is harpooned and is shown taking 23 minutes to drown.
The Emmy Awards will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. Aug. 29.
A graduate of Norman High School, McCasland, 33, holds a bachelor of arts degree in film and video from OU. He is a freelance editor in Los Angeles and has worked on reality shows and documentaries for the History Channel, Animal Planet, Discovery Channel and Fox TV.
