It was not the Sooners’ most efficient game, but the OU women’s basketball team grabbed the 70-66 road win over Texas Tech.
Unlike the first matchup of the season, in which OU trounced the Lady Raiders, Texas Tech came out competing and took the early lead.
However, OU never let the Lady Raiders pull ahead by more than two scores.
Midway through the first half, OU took an 18-17 lead, but the Lady Raiders still hung around throughout the half.
Texas Tech went back ahead by one with five minutes remaining, but then OU took the lead right back. The two teams continued to go back and forth until halftime, when the Lady Raiders held a 33-32 lead.
Junior guard Danielle Robinson led the Sooners in the first half with 12 points and three assists.
OU had a total of only 11 rebounds, which did not do the Sooners any favors.
Both teams came out of the locker room still trading baskets, but OU was able to put up a two-possession lead on Texas Tech 43-37 by the first timeout.
Junior forward Carlee Roethlisberger has been the only starter not averaging double-digits in points, but she came up big for the Sooners putting down six points in the first five minutes of the second half.
OU opened up a 49-41 lead with 12:10 remaining, forcing the Lady Raiders to take a timeout in response to OU stepping up its intensity.
The Sooners extended the lead to 12 at one point, but the home team was not going to let OU run away with the game, putting together its own run to cut the deficit to five points with six minutes remaining.
With less than two minutes left, the Lady Raiders tied the game at 66 a piece, but Robinson floated the ball for two.
Robinson finished the game with 26 points and five rebounds. Roethlisberger ended her night with 14 points and six rebounds.
Senior guard Nyeshia Stevenson led the Sooners in scoring with 17 points.
The next matchup for the Sooners is a Red River Rivalry game Wednesday at home against No. 25 Texas.
