Starters Willie Warren and Tony Crocker returned after missing the previous game, yet their presence did nothing to slow the Nebraska Cornhuskers from rolling over the Sooners 63-46.
The two Sooner leaders missed Wednesday’s win against Iowa State at Lloyd Noble Center, where the Sooners hardly missed their combined 29.9 points per game as freshman guard Tommy Mason-Griffin (38 points) and junior guard Cade Davis (24) lit up the Cyclones to keep the Sooners home winning-streak alive.
In the loss against the Cornhuskers, it seemed neither Warren nor Crocker really made a difference at all.
Crocker shot 2-11 from the field while Warren shot 1-5, contributing five and four points, respectively, and both finished with two rebounds and two assists.
Davis led the Sooners in scoring in the loss with 13 points on 3-7 shooting, while Mason-Griffin clearly lacked the strut he showed against ISU, finishing with just nine points and hitting only three of nine shots.
In the first half, OU came out with an emphasis on the three-point shot. However, with seven minutes left in the half, the Sooners had put up just 15 shots, 10 of which were three-point attempts.
The Sooners managed to hit more three-pointers over the course of the game than they did two-point field goals. OU only made seven two-point field goals.
The team put up 22 three-point prayers in the loss, shooting just over 36 percent, while shooting only 15 of 43 for the game.
Nebraska started off shaky as well; however, they would eventually find their rhythm as the Huskers shot almost 10 percent better than OU in field goals, shooting 24-54 en route to the team’s first conference win.
OU had 15 turnovers to Nebraska’s nine, which Nebraska took advantage of for 12 points off turnovers.
The Sooners were beaten in the hustle-point category. Nebraska out-rebounded the Sooners 36-27 and managed 14 second chance points to OU’s six.
OU returns home next Saturday to take on the Texas Longhorns at Lloyd Noble Center. The Longhorns held the No. 1 ranking for one week before losing three of their last four games. Texas lost in its last outing to Baylor Saturday evening in overtime 80-77 at home.
