No. 13 OU picked up its first win over a top-10 team this season in a 74-65 win over No. 8 Texas A&M.

OU came out hot against the Aggies, finding the bottom of the net early and causing disruption within the Texas A&M offense.

Junior guard Nyeshia Stevenson hit her stride early with eight points before the first timeout and the Sooners jumped out to a 17-9 lead. Stevenson would finish the half with 14, doubling her total points from OU’s last game against Baylor.

OU continued playing tight defense midway through the half, but Texas A&M eventually found rhythm closing the lead to five with seven minutes left.

The Sooners had a response though, and put up a 12-point, 34-22, advantage on the Aggies, forcing a time out by head coach Gary Blair.

The Sooners shot 50 percent in the first half and won the rebounding battle, 22-18.

OU entered the tunnel with a 41-30 halftime lead.

Stevenson picked up right where she left off in the second half taking it straight to the basket for a quick two, drawing the charge on defense, and forcing a Texas A&M turnover.

After only three minutes, OU extended the lead, 48-32. OU maintained a double-digit lead until Baylor closed it 56-48 with 11:30 left.

Texas A&M lost its high scoring senior Tanisha Smith to foul trouble for most of the second half. She fouled out with 4:49 left.

OU’s dominance began to falter, though, as the half continued. Texas A&M fought back into the game to cut the lead to three with under seven minutes remaining.

And just like the first half, OU had an answer. The Sooners built the lead back to nine with just over four minutes left and held on to that margin.

OU finished the game with four players in double digits.

Stevenson added a total of 20 points, while junior guard Danielle Robinson shined in the second half scoring 24 points and dishing out seven assists.

Senior forward Amanda Thompson and senior center Abi Olajuwon recorded double-doubles with each player posting 14 points and 11 rebounds

The only real weak spots in the Sooner win were the lack of bench scoring and turnovers. OU did not have a single bench point and committed 19 turnovers.

OU will now gear up for a road trip to Missouri Wednesday.
