The No. 2-ranked OU men’s gymnastics team defeated No. 6 Minnesota and the University of Texas club team Saturday night at McCasland Field House to remain undefeated on the season.
Junior Steven Legendre earned his first all-around title of the season, and also picked up individual event titles on the parallel bars and floor exercise to lead the Sooners to the dual meet win.
Redshirt junior Ian Jackson (rings), freshman Jacob Dalton (vault) and senior Corey English (pommel horse) each added individual event titles as OU posted the highest mark in the NCAA this season with a score of 359.450.
It was a fitting end for English, the senior co-captain who earned his first event title of the season with his final regular-season routine in Norman.
In picking up its eighth victory of the season, the Sooners (8-0, 3-0 MPSF) swept all six team event titles for the third time in five events.
Minnesota falls to 6-6 after dropping its second consecutive meet against a top-2 opponent. The Gophers were defeated by then-No. 1 Illinois Feb. 13 in Champagne, Ill.
The Longhorns were not registered as a win for the Sooners as the club team is organized by students, and men’s gymnastics is not one of the NCAA-sponsored sports at Texas.
OU will return to Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Conference action Saturday, when the Sooners travel to Lincoln, Neb., to take on No. 4 Stanford and No. 9 Nebraska inside the Devaney Center at 2 p.m.
The matchup will be OU’s third meeting with the Cornhuskers this year, with the Sooners prevailing over Nebraska Feb. 13 in Norman and also finishing ahead of the Cornhuskers Jan. 16 at the season-opening Rocky Mountain Open.
