Men's gymnastics faces top-five competition in Michigan
by   |  February 19, 2010  |

The No. 2 OU men’s gymnastics team will take on No. 3 Michigan on Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich., as the Sooners take on their first top-five opponent of the year.

The Sooners (6-0) are coming off their second victory of the season Saturday over No. 9 Nebraska, a 356.500-335.450 home win in which OU set a season-high team total.

Redshirt junior Ian Jackson took home an event title in still rings as well as the all-around title. Junior Steven Legendre also had two event titles (parallel bars and high bar), as OU collected all six team event and individual event titles.

In OU’s three tournaments so far this season, the team has increased its team total in each meet and a Sooner has claimed the individual title as well. Freshman Jacob Dalton earned the all-around title in OU’s first two meets at the Rocky Mountain Open in Colorado Springs, Colo., and on the road at then-No. 8 Iowa.

The Wolverines (7-1) head into the contest after extinguishing No. 11 University of Illinois-Chicago at home Saturday in a dominating performance against the Flames.

Michigan will be led by junior Chris Cameron, who was recently named to his third consecutive U.S senior national team at the Winter Cup Invitational in Las Vegas. OU had three current Sooners in Dalton, Legendre and freshman Alex Naddour named to the team. The trio was joined by former OU gymnasts Chris Brooks and Jonathan Horton.

The Wolverines had been ranked No. 1 for two weeks before dropping to third in the latest rankings. OU recently moved up from third to second as the Sooners inch closer and closer to the top ranking.

OU will take on Michigan at 2 p.m. Saturday as the Sooners look to remain undefeated on the season. Live stats are available online at mgoblue.com.
