After coming off a disappointing performance at Nebraska, the Sooners look to rebound and defend their undefeated home record in the Red River Rivalry game this Saturday at Lloyd Noble Center.
Oklahoma (12-9, 3-4) is going into Saturday’s contest with much needed week long rest.
“My body feels refreshed and my legs are ready to go,” freshman guard Tommy Mason-Griffin said. “At the Nebraska game I was a little fatigued, but I’m back now."
The talented freshman has logged the most minutes this season, which leaves him second in minutes per game by a freshman second to none other than Sooner legend Wayman Tisdale.
Tisdale’s life and playing career will be celebrated at Saturday’s game. Tisdale is the Sooner’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder. He passed away last May from cancer.
“He’s a big part of what we do,” head coach Jeff Capel said. “He’s the guy that made Oklahoma basketball.”
Senior forward Tony Crocker, who is playing his last game against the Longhorns at Lloyd Noble Center, said he remembers meeting Tisdale when he came to visit the locker room during Crocker’s career.
Crocker, too, is on the verge of making history, only eight rebounds shy of being the second Sooner to record 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 150 three-pointers in a career.
The No. 9 Texas Longhorns (19-3, 5-2) have struggled of late, losing three of their last five games, but are currently undefeated in the state of Oklahoma this season, beating Oklahoma State on Monday.
Though the Sooners lead the all-time series 46-28, the Longhorns have had success of late, winning seven of the last eight meetings with the two teams splitting the series last season.
Tip-off is at 3:05 p.m.
