OU received 28 letters of intent on National Signing Day, pulling in recruits from six states.

The Sooners received letters of intent from all its recruits relatively early in the day.

“It is always fun when you have your signees and letters of intent in by 11:30,” OU football head coach Bob Stoops said during Wednesday afternoon’s press conference.

Stoops and his staff had several high-profile athletes sign Wednesday, including quarterback Blake Bell from Bishop Carroll High School in Kansas and safety Tony Jefferson from Eastlake High School in California.

Stoops said Bell, a nationally sought-after quarterback, will get a chance to compete for a starting position next season.

“We have no intention of redshirting anyone,” Stoops said. “They will compete for their positions.”

Bell was a dual-threat quarterback in high school, and Stoops said he plans to take advantage of that talent.

“We don’t plan on him running the ball all day long but maybe a few runs here and there,” Stoops said.

Bell, Jefferson and the other signees make up what ESPN has said is the No.5 recruiting class in the nation.

Stoops said this year’s class will reload positions left from injuries and departing players. He said this class is much more than just athletic.

“This year’s signing class is full of high character kids,” Stoops said.

The Sooners now look ahead to spring practice, which is scheduled to begin March 8.
