After a slow start, the Sooners pulled through to beat the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles, 73-60.
“I’m really pleased with this win,” OU coach Jeff Capel said. “We beat a really good team.”
OU trailed up until the 1:49 mark in the first half, finishing with a 22-2 run fueled by 3-point shooting from sophomore guard Steven Pledger.
The second half was more balanced as the two teams traded baskets. The Sooners only knocked down one 3-point shot in the second half after making six in the first.
OU was lead in hustle by freshman Cameron Clark, who surpassed his career-high from Thursday night to set a new one with 17 points.
“Coach [Capel] and my teammates said I needed to be more aggressive,” Clark said. “So that’s what I’ve been doing.”
Pledger put up big numbers again, scoring 19. Sophomore forward Andrew Fitzgerald also scored 14 points and grabbed eight boards.
Sophomore guard Carl Blair was a spark off the bench again, scoring 12 points and dishing nine assists.
“When a team wants to win, there’s nothing you can do to stop it,” Blair said. “We don’t want to lose.”
OU depended heavily on its defense to create opportunities to win.
“Defense kept us in it until our offense got us going,” Capel said. “Our players were active, which got us more stops and gave them more energy.”
OU continues its winning streak at Lloyd Noble Center, pushing the team's record to 5-5 on the season — with all five wins coming in Norman.
OU will take a break during finals week to prepare for Cincinnati at the 75th Lane Furniture All-College Classic on Dec. 18 at the Oklahoma City Arena.
