The assistant to the OU College of Medicine dean will serve as chair of the Deans’ Assistant Group of the Association of American Medical Schools, OU Public Affairs announced Friday.

Gayle A. Pishkin Holmes was recently elected to the position. As chair, she will work to improve communication and networking among deans’ assistants and execute deans’ goals for their medical schools, as well as preside over the group’s annual meeting.

The Deans’ Assistant Group includes assistants from medical schools in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.

“Ms. Holmes has performed in an outstanding manner at the OU College of Medicine, and we are so pleased that she is being recognized with this position and honor,” said Dewayne Andrews, M.D., dean of the OU College of Medicine, in a press release.

Holmes will present her administrative group model she developed for the OU College of Medicine in November in Washington, D.C., for the 2010 annual meeting. Holmes’ model debuted at the 2008 national meeting and has since been adopted by other medical school deans’ assistants in the U.S.
