Huston Huffman Center

Whether you’re an ex-athlete or just want to start living a healthier lifestyle, the Huston Huffman Center — known around campus as simply the Huff — is here to meet your exercise needs. We’ve highlighted a few amenities you definitely don’t want to miss out on and, of course, all you need to take advantage of this behemoth facility is your student ID.

Freshens Smoothies

Need an extra protein boost after your workout? Look no further than the doors. With over 20 fresh fruit combinations to choose from and seven metabolism boosting add-ins, one of which is included in the price of the smoothie, it’s easy to find a healthy sweet treat to suit even the pickiest taste buds.

Group Fitness Classes

Whether it’s the pulsing beats of Zumba or the tranquil stretches of yoga that whet your exercise appetite, the Huff offers group fitness classes to convince even the laziest couch potatoes to break out of the dorm room. Some classes, like Spinning or Weight Training, can be taken for course credit or if you’re not ready to make a semester long commitment, some classes meet only once a week and no credit is given.

Huston Huffman employee Ashley Keeling says that these classes cost around $50 for the semester, but a discounted rate of $35 is offered for a few days early in the semester.

A complete list of classes can be found at the Huff’s website: www.recservices.ou.edu.

Massages

Pushed too hard on the basketball court? Midterms got your neck tied in knots? The Huff offers a massage service perfect for that bit of relaxation you need when college feels like too much. Massages cost $32.48 for a half hour and $48.71 for one hour and can be scheduled at the Front Desk.

The Huff offers three types of massages: Swedish, Deep Tissue and Sports Massage. Massages must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.

Front Desk

If you forgot your towel, need basketball or racquetball equipment or need to sign up for those aforementioned massages, look no further than the help desk on the top floor of the Huff. The friendly staff is comprised of students just like you, there to answer any questions you may have about the center or its various activities.

Equipment

You made it through the turnstiles and past the help desk and you now wonder where to start exercising. The Huff boasts an indoor track on the top level and various exercise machines on the upstairs bridge and in the downstairs cardio room. Also look for weight-lifting machines on the bridge if your goal is to tighten and tone. Free weights in various sizes are available downstairs.

Coin Lockers

Need a place to stash your backpack, keys or wallet? The Huston Huffman offers quarter lockers on the bottom level. Simply insert your coin, open the locker and place your belongings inside, taking the key with you. When you finish you workout, return the key to its locker, retrieve your things and keep your refunded quarter for your next workout.

Keeling says that most freshmen don’t fully utilize all the amenities of the Huff simply because they don’t realize they are available.

“Anything that we offer here is available for students,” Keeling says.
