The OU baseball team exploded on offense in three separate innings in the Sooners’ 14-0 victory over Dallas Baptist on Tuesday night at L. Dale Mitchell Baseball Park.
With the shut-out win, the Sooners moved to 30-11 on the season and head coach Sunny Golloway recorded his 200th win at OU.
After two early hits by the Patriots to lead off the top of the first, freshman pitcher Ryan Gibson came back to close down the inning with runners in scoring position.
The left-handed pitcher out of Yukon, Okla., finished the night allowing six hits with six strikeouts in five and two-thirds innings pitched.
The Sooners responded in the top of the first with a two-out three-RBI triple off of the left-center-field wall by freshman designated hitter Drew Harrison.
The triple was followed by junior infielder Danny Black’s home run over the right-field wall to score Harrison.
With two outs and the bases loaded, the Sooners ended the inning with five runs on two hits and one error, including Black’s third home run of the season.
Scoring remained quiet for both teams through three innings until the Sooners scored six more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
The scoring began after sophomore infielder Garrett Buechele was hit by a pitch for the second time in the lead off position followed by a single from sophomore infielder Cameron Seitzer through second base.
Buechele scored off of an RBI single to right field from sophomore shortstop Caleb Bushyhead.
Harrison then walked to load the bases before Black would single between first and second to score Seitzer. Sophomore pinch hitter Tyler Ogle finished the inning with a three-run home run over the left field fence to bring the lead to 11-0 over the Patriots in the bottom of the fifth.
The Sooners tacked on three more runs in bottom of the sixth off of a three-run triple by Junior infielder Cale Ellis to extend the lead to 14-0 that would stand as the final score.
