Men's basketball adds two new recruits
The OU men's basketball team added two new players to its roster Tuesday, when head coach Jeff Capel announced the signing of University of New Orleans transfer Carl Blair and junior college All-American C.J. Washington.
Blair, a 6-2, 205-pound freshman point guard, averaged 9.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game for the University of New Orleans.
Blair became just the second player in school history to record a triple double Dec. 5 against Houston Baptist, when he scored 13 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 11 assists.
Because UNO is transitioning to Division III, Blair will be eligible to play for OU next season.
Washington was a first-team junior college All-American for Connors State in Warner, Okla. He averaged 19.3 points and 13 rebounds last season and was named NJCAA Region II Player of the Year.
Blair and Washington are the latest additions to OU's signing class that includes high school seniors Cameron Clark of Sherman, Texas, T.J. Taylor of Denison, Texas, Tyler Neal of Oklahoma City, and junior college sophomore Nick Thompson from the College of Eastern Utah.
Women's basketball signs junior college transfer
The OU women's basketball team signed junior college center Jelena Cerina on Saturday.
The 6-5 center from Serbia played two seasons at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami, Okla., where she averaged 13.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game and was an NJCAA Region II All-Tournament First Team member.
Cerina will have two years of eligibility remaining when she joins the Sooners.
