The No. 43 women’s tennis team returned to Norman with two more conference wins against Kansas State on Saturday, April 17, 6-1, and Kansas on Sunday.

“We really went into the weekend with a winning attitude,” junior Tara Eckel said. “We played hard all weekend and it shows.”

OU (16-4, 6-3 Big 12) clenched its sixth conference win, and its 13th doubles point of the season.

On Saturday, the Sooners took the lead early over Kansas State winning two of the three doubles matches cinching the doubles point.

“Against Kansas State, we really went into the doubles ready to win,” Eckle said. “Looking at the scores, 8-3, 8-3, we were there to win, no funny business.”

In singles play, the Sooners claimed five of the six singles matches, four of which were in straight sets.

On Sunday, OU was seeking revenge over the Kansas Jayhawks; this was the first time the Sooners defeated Kansas in five years.

“That really was a great win we wanted to finish our last away games with a bang,” Eckel said.

The Sooners swept all three doubles matches gaining the early lead, 1-0.

In singles play, OU clenched victory winning four of the six singles matches, this was the Sooners sixth road win of the season.

Three of the four matches were won in straight sets, No. 88 Ana-Maria Constantinescu defeated Morozova 6-1, 6-3. Maria Kalashnikova defeated Kunigunda Dorn, 6-3, 6-4. Marie-Pier Huet beat KU’s Dorn, 6-3, 6-4.

The Sooners only losses came at the No. 5 and 6 spots both of which were taken into tiebreaker sets.

“We had a solid weekend, really worked hard and fought for every win,” Eckle said. “We need to get ready for our next and last conference matches this week, we need wins to take us into post seasons.”

The Sooners prepare to host their last two conference matches of the season, on Friday, April 23 against Nebraska, and on Sunday, April 25 against Iowa State.
