TE Jermaine Gresham undergoing surgery
by   |  September 8, 2009  |

Head coach Bob Stoops said senior tight end Jermaine Gresham will undergo arthroscopic surgery this afternoon to determine the extent of the damage to the cartilage in his right knee.

Stoops said depending on the severity of the damage, Gresham will sit out for a couple weeks or the rest of the season if doctors have to stitch and repair the cartilage.

“That is a five month recovery … but his long term health would be fine,” Stoops said. “Until [doctors] get in there and determine that, then the outcome of that will not be known until later this afternoon.”

Gresham injured his knee during practice on Sept. 1, and missed Saturday’s 14-13 loss to Brigham Young.

The team should have further information after the scope this afternoon, and more details will be announced as a statement from the team is released.
