Friday Face-off: No, football on Halloween night is not a fun time

Click here to read Charles Ward's opinion in the Friday Face-off.

This year Halloween falls on a Saturday, and for a college campus, that could cause a dilemma between students who want to dress up and party all night as opposed to going out and supporting their Sooners team against Kansas State.

Which begs the question, is having a game on Halloween night a good thing or bad thing?

Personally, I am not a fan of having a game on Halloween night.

I feel that many students will not come to the game on Saturday because they are going to be busy preparing for parties, getting costumes ready and pre-partying for a night where the goal is to get wicked hammered. Also, I have to cover the game and I cannot wear my Bobby Light costume in the press box, which I am very upset about.

The sad thing about this is the game on Saturday has potential to be very good. Kansas State is the top team in the Big 12 north right now and the Sooners have to deal with the loss of Sam Bradford for the rest of the season.

The Landry Jones era has officially started here at OU and due to the holiday I feel that many people will not be in attendance to see it.

There will be people in the crowd dressed up there is no questioning that; however, I feel that a majority of the stadium will not be as crowded as it is every other Saturday. Many families who come to the games might pass this one up to take their children trick-or-treating in their respective neighborhoods, and I feel the student section, especially section 26 which is always the last one to fill up in the stadium, may be painfully empty this week.

I am not saying that having football on Halloween night is a bad thing, I feel that it is unfortunate.

Normally people think of having football, on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day, it is part of the reason why people love those holidays so much, but now Halloween.

Luckily, Halloween does not fall on a Saturday every year and this just happens to be one of the years it does.

Who knows? Maybe I will be proved wrong. Maybe the crowd will be there in full force with crazy costumes cheering the Sooners on to victory. I just don’t see it happening.
