LAWRENCE, Kan. — The Sooners’ defense is off to a hot start after two quarters of play with University of Kansas Jayhawks, leading 14-6 at half.
Kansas quarterback Todd Reesing threw three interceptions in the opening quarters of the game, one which was returned for an 85-yard touchdown by junior defensive back Dominique Franks. Junior defensive lineman Jeremy Beal also came up with an interception off of a pass tipped by fellow junior lineman Adrian Taylor. Junior safety Quinton Carter picked off Kansas’ first play of the game.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Landry Jones threw one interception after the pass was tipped by junior receiver Cameron Kenney in the second quarter. Kenney and the Sooners’ receiving corps had several drops, leading to a mostly unproductive offense except for OU’s first drive, which ended up with a one yard touchdown run by senior running back Chris Brown.
Oklahoma’s running game has been contained by the Kansas defense, limiting Brown to 5 yards and the OU offense to only 16 rushing yards. Brown has been receiving the bulk of the carries while junior running back DeMarco Murray nurses an injury sustained in last week’s game on the sidelines.
Jones has thrown 12 for 21 with one interception and 82 yards, while Kansas’ Reesing has completed 11 of 21 for 121 yards with three interceptions. 56 of those passing yards came off a 56-yard shovel pass to senior running back Jake Sharp.
Reesing has rushed six times for 21 yards with a long of 19 yards. He has been sacked twice, once by Taylor and the other came with a combined effort by Beal and senior linebacker Ryan Reynolds.
The OU offensive line has not given up any sacks at this point.
