Invincible # 67
The second and final part of the “Preparations for War” arc ends with this issue as Allen the Alien and Nolan Grayson look for weapons that can destroy the Viltrumites. Cory Walker is a great artist and It’s always interesting when the original artist returns to his work because you get to see how he’s evolved. But seeing his art in “Invincible” just reminded me of how much I miss Ryan Ottley (ongoing series artist) pencils in the series. I have nothing against Cory Walker art, it’s just that Ottley has been drawing “Invincible” for so long that it doesn’t feel like the same book without him. On a high note, this issue also contains a preview to Image United which promises to be the biggest crossover in comic book history…at least in the Image universe. BE EXCITED!!!!
The Stand: Soul Survivors #1
The latest Marvel adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Stand” sees Nick Andros teaming up with Tom Cullen to navigate post-apocalyptic America in the middle of tornado season with unfriendly survivors looking for them. Although lots of people have said great things about this series, I hate it. I don’t have any problem with the art or the story; I hate it on principle. Instead of buying all the issues to this series, you could just buy the book online for $3 or less and I can safely say you’d probably get more out of it that the comic book. If you’re a hardcore Stephen King fan that buys anything that has his name on it, this book is for you, if not, just read the book.
Punisher Noir #3
After The Punisher has succeeded in decimating the crime families in 1920’s New York, he gets ready to go after the big fish: Barracuda and Jigsaw in what promises to be a very exciting and gory chapter. The writing might be great and the noir art is nice to look at but The Marvel Noir books haven’t really done anything that makes me think of them as spectacular and just seem very gimmicky. But of course, if you are a Punisher fan this book is definitely for you.
