Sooners lead Bears 14-7 in first half
by   |  October 10, 2009  |

The Sooners are looking to bounce back after their second one point loss of the season. They returned home to Norman to open up Big 12 conference play this week against Baylor, and with the return of Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford the Sooners are trying to get back on track.

It has been a slow first half for both teams with the score at halftime 14-7. In Bradford’s first game back he has thrown for 227 yards on 14 of 25 passing and zero touchdowns. Bradford’s numbers should be more impressive than what the stats show, OU wide receivers have dropped six passes in the first half.

The Sooners defense at times looks like it is back on track and other times still has some lapses that fans have seen in the BYU and Miami games earlier this year. Still the Sooners defense has held Baylor to 166 total yards in the first half. Once again, the Sooners defense line has been able to put pressure on Baylor and have sacked Baylor quarterback Nick Florence twice times in the first half.

There was not much action in the first quarter as both teams were not able to put points on the board. It was the first time this season that the Sooners failed to score in the first quarter. In the second quarter the Sooners were able to put together a strong drive that resulted in a one yard touchdown run by Chris Brown giving the Sooners a 7-0 lead mid-way through the second quarter.

Late in the second quarter the Sooners were able to get into the end zone again. The drive had a big reception from wider receiver Brandon Caleb who made the catch, and was able to reverse the field for a big gain. The drive was capped off with another touchdown run by Chris Brown, giving the Sooners the two touchdown lead.

On the ensuing drive the Bears where able to make a drive down the field and were able to get on the scoreboard with a three yard touchdown pass to make the score 14-7. It was the first points scored by an opponent at Owen Field this year.

The Sooners are going to have to step up their play in the second half; otherwise an upset alert could be happening in Norman.
