Lineman Jarvis Jones out for season with fractured heel
Head coach Bob Stoops announced sophomore offensive lineman Jarvis Jones will miss the rest of the season due to a fractured heel suffered during Saturday’s 10-3 loss to Nebraska.
“He has a fractured heel, so he won’t be available,” Stoops said.
Jones is the third player this week and the sixth player this season who has been listed as down for the rest of the season. He has started six games this season, and the injury leaves OU’s offensive line very thin.
Jones is one of two offensive linemen who started in the season opener that will end their season early due to injury. The other player is senior offensive lineman/tight end Brody Eldridge.
McCoy named a finalist for Lombardi Award
Junior defensive tackle Gerald McCoy has been named one of four finalists for the Lombardi Award Tuesday. The Lombardi Award honors the nation’s best defensive lineman.
“I always told myself even if I don’t win that I would like to be up for that award,” McCoy said. “I’ve worked so hard to get to this point.”
The other Lombardi Award finalists include TCU defensive end Jerry Hughes and, Alabama defensive lineman Terrence Cody and Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.
McCoy has recorded 22 tackles, 12 have gone for losses, and 3.5 sacks this season.
