Punch-Out!! (Wii)
Release: May 19
A re-make of the classic Punch-Out boxing game series, this one's the first of the series since Super-Punch Out!! for the Super Nintendo in 1994. It should have all the humor of the original games, as well as the strategy necessary to beat certain fighters, but will also have support for the Wii Balance Board and other new elements, such as unlockables and new modes that make the game worth looking in a couple of weeks.
The Sims 3 (PC)
Release: June 2
The Sims franchise is one of the best selling game franchises in existence, having improved more and more as time has gone by. The Sims 3 looks to be one of the best and most diverse yet, with more customization of everything, the ability to move through the game world without loading times, a streamlining of Sims' needs, and enough changes to make this worth picking up.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game (DS, PS2, PS3, Wii, PC, 360)
Release: June 16
This just seems like it's going to be funny. Described by Dan Aykroyd as being essentially "Ghostbusters 3", the game is set in 1991, and features most of the original cast of the films, including Aykroyd and Bill Murray. The PC, PS2, and 360 versions of the game are supposed to play a lot like Gears of War, although considerably less violent. I'm not much for shooters, but the humor of the movie franchise makes me think I'd like to try this out.
Fight Night Round 4 (PS3, 360)
Release: June 30
Sony and Microsoft get their own boxing game, although this one is far more serious than Punch-Out. With over 40 of boxing's most legendary fighters, including Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson, as well as some of the modern stars of the sport such as Manny Pacquiao, as well as a re-vamped career mode and an improved engine, this game looks to be an improvement over Fight Night Round 3, and worth a rental if nothing else. Ding. Ding.
Madden NFL 10 (PS3, PSP, PC, 360)
Release: August 14
It's Madden. It comes out every summer right before the NFL regular season starts. Some new changes to graphics and making the game more realistic, but if you were going to buy Madden, you were probably going to buy it anyway. It seems like EA is still trying to make the game better even though it still has no real competition in the NFL department.
