Update: 4:15 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 27.

OU campuses in Norman, Tulsa and Oklahoma City will be closed Wednesday OU Press Secretary Jay Doyle said.

He said forecasts predicting continued precipitation and falling temperatures through the night coupled with the compacting ice on the roads lead to the decision.

He said even if temperatures rise above freezing tomorrow, road conditions would not improve until the late afternoon.

He also said the OU Regents meeting set for tomorrow in Oklahoma City will continue as scheduled.

Update: 6:30 p.m., Monday, Jan 26.

Jay Doyle, press secretary and special assistant to OU President David Boren, said concerns for student safety prompted Boren to close the campuses.

Doyle said Boren received updates on weather forecasts and the conditions of OU's roads and sidewalks from the National Weather Center and OU Police Department throughout the day Monday.

Icy conditions on Monday and the possibility that the situation could deteriorate even more Monday night and Tuesday morning led Boren to cancel classes.

OU's Norman campus closed at 1:30 today, and OU President David L. Boren will make a decision by 10 p.m. tonight on whether classes will be canceled tomorrow.

All students, faculty and non-essential staff were released, and classes that were scheduled to run past the closure time ended at 1:30 p.m. as well.
