An OU organization that lives for speed started the engine of their new racecar last week and is four wheels ahead of its competitors.
The Sooner Racing Team finished their new racecar Karen, which makes them the third team among their competition to have their car running.
According to team captain David Collins, the fast construction of the car means more driver training and more data to track their progress. The team works with the Engineering department at OU to better their times on the track.
Collins said this car is unique compared to past creations because this is the smallest engine the team has ever built. The car weighs about 70 pounds lighter, which allows for faster acceleration and better handling on the track.
Collins said the team goal is to place top 5 in every competition this year, especially when the team travels to Virginia in late April for their international competition.
The team will officially unveil Karen to the public mid-March. The complete details of the event are still being finalized.

Second Friday Circuit of Art walk to change routes
Executive director of the Norman Arts Council is proposing a route change for The 2nd Friday Circuit of Art, a monthly art walk in down town Norman this week.
Rick Fry is asking CART to have the busses stop at Asp Avenue on Campus Corner instead of stopping at University Street. No one was getting off at that stop to continue the art tour, Fry said. The new route will go from Boyd Street to University, then Jenkins Avenue, and the new stop at Asp Avenue.
The new route is expected to run on the next art walk on March 13.
It is more convenient for merchants and may encourage other businesses on Campus Corner to stay open later, he said.
