Students perform for a cause
by   |  December 9, 2009  |

Students from the OU School of Musical Theater class of 2010 will perform in “We Sing III” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Pitman Recital Hall in Catlett Music center.

The free performance is open to the public and all donations will be given to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Foundation.

We Sing was first performed three years ago as a benefit cabaret after musical theater major Lindsay Schwak’s father passed away from ALS.

“After learning of Lindsay Schwak’s father’s death, I sent a message to my musical theater classmates asking them to lend their talents to show support for a friend and her family,” said musical theater senior Ryan Koss in a press release. “Every piece of my heart goes into this project, and so do the hearts of other the OU musical theater majors of 2010.”

Energy management junior Kristen Anderson is planning on attending the show the tomorrow.

She said she is eager to show her support for the hard-working cast, which includes her sorority sister, musical theatre senior Lindsay Schwak.

“I wanted to go and support her [Schwak] along with the rest of the seniors who are performing,” Anderson said. “I just think they’ve worked so hard and they’re putting on a great show.”

This year’s performance includes a range of styles from the traditional song-and-dance style of musical theater to contemporary pop pieces.

It also marks the last time the OU musical theater class of 2010 will take the stage together as OU students.

Schwak said while it’s strange to be a senior, she is looking forward to the show.

“It’s been cool to see the process of it,” Schwak said. “It’s just cool to see how we’ve grown together as a class.”

Schwak also said there are a lot of fun, goofy moments in this year’s show and that “it really tells a story.”
