Grad Gifting

Even if you aren’t graduating, chances are you know someone who is. Whether it’s your roommate, sorority sister, fraternity brother or just a classmate, you know you’ll be there supporting them on their big day. But if you can’t make the actual ceremony, or even if you can and you want to go the extra mile, here are some tips on finding the perfect gift to fit any person.

The personal gift

Chances are your grad won’t expect too much from you. Grads definitely understand what it’s like to be a poor college student. This is where your creative skills come in. If you’re feeling like an arts and crafts project, try decorating a picture frame. Frames are inexpensive at Wal-Mart or Hobby Lobby. All you just need the perfect photo. If you can’t pick just one photo, buy a photo album and some stickers and create your own memory book.

And if that’s a little too crafty for you, the people at www.personalizationmall.com will do all the work for you. Just pick out any item and have it inscribed with the recipient’s name or an inside joke.

Recommended item: Photo cube that includes the grad’s first name, graduating class and a short message. You can pick from their inspirational messages or create your own. ($23.95 before shipping and handling)

The spirited gift

You live in Norman, Okla., so you’ve got easy access to a variety of OU apparel and memorabilia at different price ranges. From the stores on Campus Corner to the University Bookstore you’ve got an endless supply of OU-themed gift options. You really can’t go wrong, and your grad will probably appreciate all the OU stuff. They majority of the grads will probably be leaving the Norman area, so help them stock up on their collection.

Recommended item: Once graduation is complete, your recipient will be an OU alum. Start your friend off with his or her first OU alumni T-shirt. ($18 at the OU Bookstore.)

The practical gift

Odds are your grad is going off to work post-graduation. Whether it’s a full-time position or a part-time internship, grads will appreciate the practicality of office goods. A collection of traditional office supplies are easy to find (Wal-Mart) and fairly inexpensive. But if you’re looking for something a little more creative, try www.knockknock.biz for fun and functional office accessories. They have everything from humorous note pads to organizational accessories. It’s the perfect thing to spice up your grad’s new office space.

Recommended item: KnockKnock sticky notes are funny and useful. (About $7)

The splurge gift

If you’re ready to splurge for something outside of a typical college budget, the OU IT store, located at 1305 S. Jenkins, is just the place. There, you can find a variety of computer products including software and accessories. The IT store also sells many Apple products including iPods. If you’re still an OU student, you have the advantage of using a student discount. If you’re a senior, now’s your last chance, so start shopping soon.

Recommended item: You can get a 2G iPod shuffle for less than $80.
