This week’s wine is “River Road” of the Russian River Valley of Sonoma Valley, Calif.

Admittedly, I am partial to the California grape. This particular wine will go down very smoothly and has a clean finish without having either too powerful or too weak a bouquet.

The “River Road” Pinot Noir offers rich elements of coffee bean and berry flavors mixed in with the soil from where it is grown, giving it a surprisingly light and airy taste. An excellent combination, in my opinion.

Usually, a Pinot noir is either too strong or too weak and you should be careful about ordering it as a house wine at a restaurant. Also, be warned about picking out a Pinot Noir from a wine seller who is not well seasoned in his or hers knowledge of the difficulty in finding the right one.

This scrupulous “River Road” is ideal for those of you looking to try a red wine with little knowledge of wine in general for its ability to meet in between the possible tastes of a Pinot noir.

The wine does not need the meticulousness of decanting and can be enjoyed at room temperature, particularly with a heavier, red meat meal.

So, try the 2006 “River Road” from the Robbins Vineyard and be amazed by this truly amazing wine.

Suggestion (and maybe it's in the print edition) - can you put an estimated price of whatever it is you're reviewing near the top of the article? Not such a huge deal for the beers, but the price of a wine bottle is a deal breaker for most of us.
