Squaring off against its toughest test to date in the 7th-ranked Southern California Women of Troy, the OU volleyball team was unable to sustain some early momentum and fell to the Pac-10 powerhouse 3-1 (27-25, 20-25, 16-25, 22-25).
The Sooners snatched a close opening set from the six-time national champions, but attack errors took their toll in the ensuing three sets, as the Sooners fall to 1-3 on the season.
The match, the team’s first in the three-day 2008 Holiday Inn L.A. City Center Trojan Invitational, was not without its highlights though, as sophomore middle blocker Christy Disarro had one of her most efficient performances as a Sooner. The Plano, Texas, native posted numerous career highs, including 11 blocks – five block solos and six block assists. Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Francie Ekwerekwu added a team-high 14 kills.
The Sooners return to action tonight at 7 p.m. CT, when they meet the No. 21 San Diego Toreros.
