The designated bike lane on the South Oval is for bicyclists, not pedestrians.
For safety reasons, pedestrians need to treat the bike lane as a street. They need to avoid walking in it and look both ways before crossing it.
The bike lane is narrow and busy, which makes it difficult and dangerous for bicyclists to swerve or brake to avoid hitting pedestrians who ignore these two simple rules.
There is no need to act rude toward bicyclists who know the bike lane is for use by bicyclists.

I swear to sweet baby jesus, if I have to see one more column inch in this paper wasted on more inane bike path garbage, I will lose my mind.
I have been here for 7 semester and I don't think one of them have gone by without at least one article, our view or other random bit of stupidity wasted on the biggest nonissue to ever exist.
If this were some kind of joke, that'd be one thing, but dear god, the editors decided to print this?
And people wonder why print journalism is a dying industry.

My view is this: The bike lane is for bikes, and if you step into the path, I might just run in to you. Like I give a s--- if you get hit because you're a moron. I can tell you, it's probably not going to hurt me or my bike very much if I slam into your knee or back because you decided not to pay attention. All that said, I do try to avoid pedestrians the best I can. I just want to say though, for all the walkers, every bicyclist is watching where he/she is going at every moment. We have to constantly pay attention to when we'll need to break, which way to go, who to try and go around, etc. If you would just maybe pay a little more attention to how you walk, and not do things like take up entire walk/bikeways, things would go smoother.

Let's just not lose sight of the other 90% of campus without bike lanes where cyclists rudely try to cut around and blaze past pedestrians. Are you so lazy that you can't walk your bike on a busy sidewalk instead of expecting everyone to part ways as though you're Moses?
