The highly anticipated matchup against sensational junior Stephen Curry and his Davidson squad is now officially on the docket for Tuesday.
The OU men's basketball team advanced to the second round of the NIT Season Tip-Off Monday night with its 94-53 win over Mississippi Valley State.
For the second straight game, sophomore Blake Griffin recorded a double-double and led all players in points and rebounds. Griffin scored 20 points, grabbed 19 boards and six steals.
Defense once again played a major factor in OUʼs victory. Mississippi Valley State was held to 18-56 shooting from the field, and seven Sooners players combined to record 18 steals.
The Delta Devils managed to claw their way back near the end of the first half to take a 16-point deficit into halftime, but OU opened up the second half on a 27-4 run, and the Sooners never looked back.
Freshman Willie Warren finished with 14 points, two rebounds and two assists. It seemed his aggressiveness from the second half of Fridayʼs game carried over to tonight, as all of Warrenʼs points were scored in the paint
Aside from OU's dominance inside, the Sooners made sure their steals went to good use as well. OU scored 35 points off turnovers, compared to Valley Stateʼs 14.
Freshman Ray Willis came off the bench in the second half and did his part in keeping OU's momentum rolling. Willis recorded 14 points, two rebounds and two steals in only 15 minutes of action.
OU will play Davidson Tuesday night at 8:35 p.m. at the Lloyd Noble Center. The winner will advance to New York City, where they will likely compete against schools such as Purdue, Boston College and Arizona.
