Grant to help state scientists in biofuels study

OKLAHOMA CITY — A national foundation is awarding a $15 million dollar grant to Oklahoma scientists studying alternative forms of energy using switchgrass and other non-food crops.

The scientists from Oklahoma State University, the University of Oklahoma and the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation are working as a group on the project.

The grant from the National Science Foundation Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research will be awarded over five years.

The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education will provide another $1.1 million each year as a match.

The team of 13 scientists is led by Dr. Raymond Huhnke who is a professor of biosystems and agricultural engineering at Oklahoma State.
