After months of debating, campaigning and polling the 2008 historical election is finally over. President-elect Barack Obama will be inaugurated in January, but before you start celebrating our country’s new leader, you have to make it through the holidays.
Post-election shopping can be a great way to show the political supporters in your life that you care, regardless of your political affiliation. Not only do several Web sites offer a variety of items, including T-shirts, buttons, stickers, signs and posters and more, many of these items can be found at discount prices because the campaigning is over.
Obama’s campaign Web site (www.store.barackobama.com) offers a “Gear for less” section, which lists all sale items. This feature will save you time and money as you navigate the online store. For example, a navy Obama ’08 T-shirt is selling for $15 (was $25), and stickers and pins are selling for $1.
The site also features reasonably priced jewelry (charms for $35), magnets (about $5), hats ($15) and other accessories. The shirt section offers shoppers a variety of sizes, including shirts specifically for women and children. There’s bound to be an ideal gift for any of the Obama supporters on your list.
GOP candidates John McCain and Sarah Palin didn’t fare so well in the polls, but these online Web sites still feature their merchandise. (Both sites are independent of the McCain/Palin campaign.)
Www.goptrunk.com offers the option to buy merchandise in bulk. For $25, you can buy a party pack that includes bumper stickers, buttons, signs, stickers and more. This is an inexpensive way to please the disappointed McCain supporters.
Another site, www.johnmccain08store.com, offers 2008 McCain/Palin shirts and buttons. The site also features hats, buttons and signs promoting Sarah Palin in 2012.
Just remember to shop quickly. Once some of these items are sold out, you’re out of luck.
