Sunday, August 31, 2008

The OU Women’s soccer team wound up splitting a two-game weekend after defeating the Ball State Cardinals 2-1 Sunday and improving their season record to 1-2.

Despite having some opportunities, neither team could put anything on the board until Ball State’s Sarah Shumacker got a one-timer shot past the Sooners’ goalie late in the first half off Emily Rein’s centering pass.

The Sooners struck back early in the second half when a shot off the foot of sophomore forward Whitney Palmer hit the back of the net to tie up the game. Sophomore midfielder Kelsey Allison was credited with the assist on Palmer’s goal.

The Plano, Texas, native’s goal on Sunday was her second on the short season.

With a little over 8 minutes left in the game freshman forward Jordan White scored the game winning goal on a breakaway which was created by a deep pass from sophomore midfielder Brianne Frost who was given the assist.

The Sooners’ next game is on the road at the University of North Texas and don’t return home until Sunday, September 7 when they take on the Rice Owls.
