Earplugs being used in prep for game
The Sooners have been using earplugs in practice to prepare for a loud environment Saturday on the road at Oregon.

Their use is designed to make it harder for the offense to hear quarterback Paul Thompsons snap counts and checks, forcing players to focus more on listening.

If it were up to Thompson, the team would wear the earplugs in practice every day.

It was kind of nice yesterday, he said. I have them in too. It was kind of quiet; kind of mellow out there. I couldnt hear the defensive coaches yelling over there on the other side. It was kind of relaxing. Id like to keep them the whole season.

Stoops not pleased with BCS
The BCS formula did not make any significant changes before this season. One third of the formula is based on the AP Poll, another third comes from the Harris Poll and the last third comes from computer rankings.

In the past, the BCS used strength of schedule in its rankings. Now, schedule is only one factor among many used to compile the computer rankings.

Stoops would like to see that change again.

Make strength of schedule matter more, he said. Weve done an about face now it doesnt matter. Lets face it, at the end of the year they count up losses and they slot you. Thats just how it is anymore. Its like Penn State goes out on the road this week to play No. 2 Notre Dame and they drop out (because they lost).
