Paul G. Risser, outgoing Chancellor of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, is returning to OU to serve as chairman of the university-wide Research Cabinet, which will coordinate research planning on all three of OU's campuses, OU President David L. Boren announced Thursday.
"We are very excited that Dr. Paul Risser, who began his academic career at OU before going on to two university presidencies, will be coming back home to OU to help the university in the vitally important role of leading our strategic planning for research growth on all three campuses," Boren said. "Our Research Cabinet, which he will chair, will bring together research leaders on all three campuses to coordinate our effort to further develop our research programs. OU research has become a leading engineer for economic growth in our state, and Paul Risser, who as chancellor - along with Gov. Brad Henry - has been the architect of the EDGE initiative for our state, is nationally recognized as an expert in research policy and programs."
Les Risser, who has been serving as volunteer special projects coordinator for the state regents and served on OU's Presidential Advisory Committee on the Problem of Underage Drinking and the Use and Abuse of Alcohol, will become OU Director of Academic Outreach, bringing together academic programs and guest speakers to the university's residence halls, fraternities and sororities in coordination with OU faculty-in-residence programs.
"Les Risser has had long experience at Miami University in Ohio and at Oregon State in working with undergraduates to enhance their college experiences. She will help bring added intellectual vitality to our residence halls and Greek system houses," Boren said.
