Summertime is here, bringing once again the MTV Movie Awards.
The awards aim to counter the formal, elitists attitude of the Academy Awards and Golden Globes.
The films that are nominated are a combination of blockbusters along with a few Academy Award-nominated films.
Somehow the Academy forget to nominate the film "Wedding Crashers," but the film still managed to receive five MTV Movie Award nominations.
Besides being nominated for three different awards, actress Jessica Alba will be this years host.
Viewers had the choice of who would win by logging on to mtv.com before May 19.
The 2006 MTV Movie Awards will air at 8 p.m. Thursday on MTV.
Just as those other award shows give out a lifetime achievement award, MTV has its own version of that award with the MTV Generation Award. Comedian Jim Carrey will be this years recipient
