Gridiron Gang
While August provides audiences with Snakes on a Plane, September will bring the action drama Gridiron Gang starring The Rock. Gridiron Gang, which also stars rapper Xzibit, tells the real-life story of a football team consisting of juvenile detention detainees. This should be a classic win-against-all-odds type of action film.
All the Kings Men
September is usually reserved for dramas and the film All the King's Men will fulfill that trend. All the King's Men features an all-star cast starring Sean Penn, Jude Law and Kate Winslet. The film is an adaptation of the novel published in 1946 that won a Pulitzer Prize. The novel was made into a film in 1949. The highly anticipated remake showcases the rise and corruption of a Louisiana politician. The novel was believed to be based on real-life Louisiana politician Huey P. Long. Many are saying this '06 adaptation could be a prime contender for the Academy Awards.
Open Season
September also brings a family film. The cartoon Open Season about a deer and a domesticated bear that bond during hunting season should be a funny, entertaining family film, especially with the voices of Ashton Kutcher, Martin Lawrence and Debra Messing.
The Last Kiss
Following the huge success of Garden State, actor and director Zach Braff returns to film with The Last Kiss. The film also stars The OC actress Rachel Bilson. The Last Kiss, which is an adaptation of the Italian film L'Ultimo Baccio, is a contemporary dramaedy about life at turning 30 and being unsure of the next step. The Last Kiss will probably also feature an amazing soundtrack like Garden State. Look for this one to be a heartfelt but comedic film.
Marie Antoinette
Director Sofia Coppolas adaptation of Marie Antoinette stars Kirsten Dunst as Antoinette and comes out this October. The film tells the story of the Austrian princess who marries young and finds herself the teen queen of France. Many critics have expressed curiosity about this film since this is the first big-scale film Coppola has directed.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning
A prequel to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise will also arrive in October. The prequel titled Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning will show the origin of Leatherface and will star Jordana Brewster. This will be the typical slasher flick.
Flicka
Flicka is about a young girl's relationship with a wild mustang and the wild horse race they will participate in. The film stars country singer Tim McGraw and Alison Lohman. This film will cater toward families.
Stranger than Fiction
November brings several comedies such as Stranger than Fiction starring Will Ferrell and Dustin Hoffman. The film is about an IRS agent who suddenly begins to hear his life narrated by a voice only he can hear. The film also features Queen Latifah and Emma Thompson. Since Will Ferrell stars in this, there will be high expectation for constant comedy.
Casino Royale
The James Bond character returns with a new actor in Casino Royale. British actor Daniel Craig takes the 007 spot from the previous Bond, Pierce Brosnan. This Bond film is supposed to spice up the Bond series, which is 20 years old. The film's premise is the typical go after bad guy who is a money launderer for terrorists.
A Good Year
A Russell Crowe drama will also debut in November. A Good Year tells the story of an investment expert (Crowe) who loses his job and moves to Provence to manage a vineyard that his late uncle left him. A Californian woman arrives at the vineyard and claims its hers.
Charlottes Web
A modern film adaptation of the children's novel Charlotte's Web starring Dakota Fanning arrives in theaters in December. The familiar story of a little girl becoming friends with a spider and a pig is a children's favorite. Julia Roberts voices the legendary spider that has a gift for language.
Dreamgirls
Singer and actress Beyonce Knowles will star in Dreamgirls, a film about a successful all-girl musical group in the late 60s. The film, which also stars Jamie Foxx and Danny Glover, shows the rise and fall of the fictional group.
The Good Shepherd
The highly anticipated drama The Good Shepherd lands in theaters in December. The film, directed by actor Robert De Niro, features an extremely talented cast including Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie, Alec Baldwin and De Niro. The film showcases the early history of the Central Intelligence Agency viewed through one man's life. This could be another Oscar contender.
