Robbery suspect to be charged
by   |  February 22, 2006  |

Charges of robbery by force, attempted robbery and attempted burglary will be filed against an 18-year-old Tulsa man for a string of incidents in Norman since Feb. 10, Cleveland County District Attorney Tim Kuykendall said Wednesday.

Charges of robbery with firearms and attempted robbery have been filed for incidents that occurred in Moore.

Kuykendall said he intends to file 14 total charges by Friday against Deangelo Marquis Finnies. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of a life sentence with a minimum of five years in prison.

"We have been filing charges all day long against him," Kuykendall said.

Finnies is being held in the Cleveland County Detention Center on $200,000 bond.

On Feb. 15, an OU student was robbed at Sterling University Greens and another student was targeted at The Edge apartment complex, according to police reports.

A pizza delivery driver was attacked on South Berry Road Friday. Two robberies occurred Feb. 10 on the west side of Norman between Main and Lindsey streets at Peppertree Patio Homes and Creekside Apartments. One victim was robbed Tuesday near Whittier Middle School, according to police reports.

Finnies was stopped by Moore police Sunday evening for an improper tag display. His vehicle matched the description of a vehicle used in the Norman and Moore robberies. A black BB gun was found on the passenger-side floorboard of the vehicle, according to court records.

Moore police also interviewed Finnies's girlfriend, who said she was driving the car when at least two of the robberies were committed, according to an affidavit.

For the Norman incidents, Kuykendall said Finnies will be charged with six counts of robbery by force and two counts of attempted robbery. Both charges carry the same penalty of five years to life in prison.

"The only difference is whether or not he was able to obtain property from the victim," Kuykendall said.

Finnies also faces one charge of attempted burglary for an incident involving an OU student.

Lindsey Ray, zoology sophomore, said a man led her at gunpoint from her car and up the stairs to her apartment, where she slammed the door on the robber.

In several cases, the robber approached the victim and requested assistance before displaying a firearm and demanding money.

Eight separate charges were filed against Finnies because eight victims were involved in the robberies, according to a press release.

Kuykendall said the district attorney's office is looking into charges against two co-defendants in the case and possibly additional charges against Finnies.

Norman Detective David Teuscher and Moore Detective Danny Melendez worked on the joint investigation between the two police departments, according to a press release.
