WAFFLE HOUSE

You may think Waffle House is sub-par just because it's a chain. But if you do, you are wrong.

First of all, the menu has pictures on it. That simplifies things a great deal. Placing your order would be a breeze if there weren't so many options.

The waffles are cooked fresh to order and you taste a hint of vanilla in them. They are just sweet enough that you don't need syrup, but you can use it if you want.

The eggs, bacon, sausage, etc., are pretty standard. The hash browns are key. You can order them smothered, covered, chunked, diced and a variety of other ways, and with each word you add, you add jalapenos, onions, tomatoes, cheese, ham or another topping.

THE DINER

The people who go to The Diner expecting the finest in diner dining won't be disappointed.

The food is excellent and classically diner-esque: at lunchtime, the emphasis is on burgers and fries, but the jewel in The Diner's crown is breakfast. Platters full of diner staples - bacon, eggs, potatoes, biscuits - come out to satisfy The Diner's diners, who keep the place full.

That's one of the few downsides to eating at The Diner - a limited number of booths, a seemingly unlimited number of hungry people and an early closing time (2 p.m.) can make getting a booth difficult.

The food and the prices keep people coming back. The Diner recognizes that college students are hungry as well as poor. A drink and a plate loaded with a huge burger and a mountain of fries will set you back six bucks, less than at most sit-down restaurants, and you won't be able to eat it all.

RUBY'S DINER

I used to think IHOP was okay. But, that was before Ruby and her magical diner entered my life.

Ruby's Diner is great. They have steak, real steak. They price it under ten dollars and serve it with hash browns and eggs just like heaven would; that is if they have diners heaven.

Also, the challah strawberry french toast is pretty amazing.

When you go to campus corner these days, you'll notice it isn't as dark it once was; Ruby's quaint pink, 1950s era booths shinning brightly through the window.

So when you dine in Norman, remember, Ruby's Dinner is great.
