Club Purgatory is again opening its gates to the darker night owls of Oklahoma City. DJ Parasight, DJ Apocalypse, DJ Reactive and special guest DJ Deathjest are hitting the decks alongside six of the models from the Toxic Goddess Web site.
Even though the artists all have a lot of the same 80's New Wave inspiration the music is going to be quite varied.
"I'm really into the whole power noise movement," DJ Parasight said. "Bands like Manufacture and Terrorfack. It's the next generation of experimental music brought to a higher tempo, not like 1000 bpm but different from your regular types experimental music, its a lot more danceable with tons more rhythm."
DJs Apocalypse and Reactive have quite a history together. They both have helped organize major shows in Dallas called Ascension. DJ pocalypse said that they like to spin a lot of synth pop, industrial, retro 80's ebm and new wave.
"Take 80s new wave and combine it with techno," DJ Apocalypse said. "Then add a beat taken from new wave and cross it with techno with a good synth. Think along the lines of VNV Nation, Covenant, and Devsion."
What's great about this particular group of DJ's, RE:Mission, is that they are not in it for the money, glory, or any of lust or poison of fame. They just want to play the best music, set a mood, and give people an experience.
"We just don't see that there is a strong scene here," Apocalypse said. "There's a lot that people miss out on as far as DJ's coming through. My people down in Dallas were able to book VNV and there is not a reason that they shouldn't of played here."
DJ Parasight said that he just wants a good scene for people here, and RE:Mission is the cure. His confidence in his group's show is not just rooted in his armory of hard to find underground tracks, but his ability to know what to play and when to play it. Parasight's previous crowds say that once he behind the decks there is no stopping him.
In addition to RE:Mission DJ'ing the night into submission it will also be the official Skinny Puppy Release party. Metropolis Records will have plenty of free swag for the crowd including CD giveaways, posters, and stickers.
The appeal of the music is going to be rivaled by the sex appeal of the Toxic Goddesses. Toxicgoddess.com is a site featuring goth / fetish models from across the nation. The site explores a darker side of art that the Suicide Girls have yet to go.
The Goddesses will be on hand with free give-aways of their own; 8 x 10 glossies, stickers and their very own dark calendar. Oklahoma's own Dark Mistress is slated to MC the event. Dark Mistress said that her goal is to make sure that people know who they are and what they are about. The show will have framed prints of the sites mastermind, Dirk Hooper, displayed around the venue.
Anybody in the mood for underground music, DJ's who prowl the darker side of culture, fine art and beautiful women will find their fill at Purgatory this Saturday night starting at 8 p.m.
