Seven47, 747 Asp Ave., is not the casual afternoon lunch break.
Set in contrasting light and dark contemporary colors, the restaurant pulls together a design of both sharp edges and smooth curves. The upscale, modern design bribes those who enter to adorn themselves with a bit of glamour and classy style.
The restaurant offers a large dining area, an equally spacious bar, as well as a patio. It also provides a private party/dining room, which can be rented, and will offer an upstairs piano in the near future.
The dining experience at Seven47 offers a contemporary taste to match the modern mood.
A variety of appetizers are offered to start the meal, and a good range of options from traditional chips and queso to a classier breaded calamari create a spectrum of tempting choices.
The breaded calamari has a delectable flavor and harbors a nice crunch. It comes with an option of bleu cheese garlic sauce or chipotle tomato sauce for dipping. I preferred the bleu cheese dip, but both added a nice zest to the appetizer. It's a greasy mess for your fingers though.
Another appetizer (and the priciest at $7.99), consists of Thai chicken skewers, oriental slaw, and green leaf wedges. This appetizer was the most flavor-filled, but the most difficult for the diner to concoct.
The gist is to remove the chicken (crisply flavored with fine ginger barbecue), mix it in a lettuce wrap with slaw and top it off with a smidgen of peanut sauce. The result is a balanced assortment of rich and seasoned peanut and Thai flavor.
On to the entrees, Seven 47 offers an array of selections. Costing no more than eight dollars and no less than six, salads offered vary from oriental chicken salad, to chicken Caesar or smoked salmon.
The sandwich selection is plentiful and the most pocketbook friendly. Prices range from about five to eight dollars, and options include various paninis, the Seven47 Reuben and grilled chicken.
Burgers are a unique creation at Seven47. The Kobe burger, made with Kobe beef, is juicy and tender, and is topped with tomato, romaine lettuce, onion and the choice of cheddar, provolone or bleu cheese. The bleu cheese offers a nice complimentary taste to the burger, and the foccacia bread gives the meal a sense of luxury.
The french fries, which came with the burger, were soft and not crunchy, but were flavored well and came in a small portion.
The southwestern quesadilla, another entree, came packed with choice cuts of chicken, a mix of cheeses, black beans, tomato, corn and sweet pepper bacon. The flavor was full-spectrum, and the cheesiness was reminiscent of a gooey pizza. Not a bad thing, but contrary to the southwestern appeal.
To conclude the meal, or to cut straight to the end, an assortment of desserts can be had. The Campfire S'mores offer a fun meal presentation, and the Chocolate Diablo offers an exquisite sweet taste.
Garnished with a green mint leaf, the Chocolate Diablo consists of vanilla ice cream in one bowl, and another bowl with a large brownie dressed in strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. Scoop by scoop this dessert offers a delightful mix of warm and cold, and sweet and fruity.
The restaurant is open from 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, and 4 p.m. - 11 p.m. on Friday. The bar is open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Saturday. Sundays, Seven47 offers brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Rating: Three stars out of four.
