Arts and Sciences selects new associate dean

Kelly Damphousse, professor of sociology and faculty administrative fellow for the University of Oklahoma College of Arts and Sciences was selected as associate dean of the college. Damphousse, who has worked at OU since 1997, began the position July 1.

Damphousse replaces Pamela Genova, French professor, who left the position as associate dean to become her department chair.

As associate dean, Damphousse will coordinate the summer school budget; work with the chairs, directors and faculty of departments; and act as liaison between the departments, the Women's Advisory Committee and the dean. He will teach one course in the sociology department each semester.

Damphousse was selected as an associate professor in 2001 and became faculty administrative fellow in 2004. His academic and research topics include the relationship between drug use and crime, and criminology and deviant behaviors, specifically the prosecution of American terrorism.

New fellowships available for potential local teachers

Oklahoma City and Tulsa school district teachers interested in furthering their education can receive a master of library and information studies degree with specialization in school library media services from the University of Oklahoma, paid for by newly available funds.

The School of Library and Information Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences recently was awarded a $569,500 grant from the Institute for Museum and Library Services, an independent federal agency dedicated to sustaining a nation of learners by helping libraries and museums serve their community.

The grant will fund 30 fellowships to Oklahoma City and Tulsa teachers wanting to pursue a MLIS degree and Oklahoma School Library Media Certification, beginning in spring 2006 through summer 2008. Fellowships will cover tuition and fees, provide stipends for books, childcare to a summer workshop and travel to one national-level and one state- or regional-level conference in each of the program's two years.

For additional information on the fellowship, contact Kathy Latrobe at 325-3921.
