Rest, relaxation help some with finals
by   |  December 11, 2005  |

Students looking for a way to relax from the stress of finals will have several options.

The Union Programming Board will continue to provide finals week services to students, including music Monday through Wednesday at noon in the food court of Oklahoma Memorial Union and free food at 10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday in the Traditions Room of the union Joanna Robinson, Union Programming Board coordinator, said in an e-mail.

Robinson offered tips on how students can de-stress and relax during the high-tension finals week.

"Get plenty of sleep, eat normal meals and take time to have some fun," she said. "You function and think better if you've taken time to relax and de-stress."

Several students have their own tips for relaxation.

"I suggest the relaxation room at Goddard [Health Center]," said Andrew Nguyen, health and exercise science sophomore. "It looks pretty cool, though I've never been. They have tranquil waterfalls, foot massages, soothing sounds. It would be really great."

Sandeep Sebastian, microbiology sophomore, suggested that students do something they enjoy.

"People should do what they like to do," Sebastian said. "It's nice. If they relax by playing Xbox, then they should play Xbox. If they relax by going to the [Huston Huffman Center], then they should go there and play basketball. They should do whatever they enjoy."

While many people will head to the Huston Huffman Center to take a mental break from their studies, one student said he would avoid the fitness center.

"I exercise a lot, but I would not go exercise during finals week," said Reece Underwood, University College freshman. "I would be exerting myself physically, then turning around and exerting myself mentally. I'd rather be lazy."

Underwood says that the form of relaxing doesn't matter, as long as one's mind is off the workload.

"I just kind of get away from my studies and hang out with friends," Underwood said. "Sometimes, you just have to put the book down and hang out with friends."
hello there & you too
