OU Department of Public Safety is investigating a vandalism that quickly turned into an assault and battery last weekend at an on-campus apartment.
OUDPS officers responded to the Yorkshire Apartments, 911 W. Imhoff Road, at 3:35 a.m. Saturday, concerning a disturbance.
After arriving at the apartment complex and contacting the individuals who made the call, policemen found a man bleeding from the head, OUDPS Sgt. Gary Robinson said. Police then questioned witnesses and the victim, Robinson said.
Witnesses said an unidentified man entered the Yorkshire Apartment complex area and knocked on one of the apartment doors, Robinson said. The occupants of the apartment answered the door to the man, who then asked about parties.
The occupants told the man that nothing was going on, Robinson said.
A next-door neighbor went outside because he heard their conversation and talked to the man, Robinson said.
The neighbor went inside his apartment after talking to the man, and a few minutes later, he said he heard a window shatter. He went back outside to see what happened and confronted the man again.
An argument ensued and moments later, the man struck the neighbor with a glass bottle on the forehead, Robinson said.
Robinson said a friend took the victim to Norman Regional Hospital, where he received stitches for the injuries.
The victim described the suspect as a black male wearing a white ballcap with an afro-type hairstyle.
Police have the license plate number of the car the suspect was driving the night of the incident.
Robinson said the police traced the plate number back to the registered owner and when they questioned the car's owner, he said he let his roommates borrow his vehicle.
Police then questioned the roommate, who said he was present at the apartment but was only trying to break up the fight. The car owner's roommate could not identify the suspect and provided the same basic description as the other witnesses.
Robinson said the first course of action for the police is to piece together what happened and then identify the suspect and question him about his version of events.
"Once we identify the suspect and get his side of the story, we will then find out why the person was assaulted," he said.
